Kasteel Maurick is named after Hendrik van Maurick, a genuine medieval knight from the Dutch province of Gelderland. Two impressive portraits by Rembrandt in 1632 once adorned the castle walls. To see the originals, you will now have to go to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, but two excellent reproductions hang in Kasteel Maurick’s hall. The castle is set in woodland on an island in the River Dommel. The bridal suite and the castle suites all are tastefully furnished in contemporary style.
