You won’t believe your eyes and ears in this National museum that dates from 1762. This former armoury in the centre of Woerden is the place to be. The activities in the open kitchen, the cosiness of Van Rossum’s Bar and Restaurant and the tastiest regional products in the pilot shop make the ground floor a contemporary bazaar.
All areas are more or less adjoining. It’s a great place to amuse yourself and taste the most delicious cheeses from the Green Heart, home-smoked salmon or the best Dutch sausages. The modern rooms with ancient geatures all have Auping beds and a cosy yet individual interior.
Photographer Maarten Koch designed unique chandeliers for the atrium which are reminiscent of the old metal racks of long ago. He has adorned them with 40 glass plates with images from the region.
Woerden has always had close ties to the surrounding countryside. Chef Dwight Scholtens honours these links by using only the best regional products.
The Van Rossum Bar & Restaurant is ‘the place to be’ according to Van Rossum himself. Woerden has strong ties with the surrounding polder lands, which is reflected in the restaurant’s cuisine. Chef Dwight Scholtens’ menu offers many local dishes always using the very best local and seasonal produce. The Big Green Egg offers superior grilled dishes. Combined with the relaxed atmosphere this lends to a memorable dining experience.
The friendly bar is part of the restaurant.
The restaurant is opened daily.
Van Rossum’s Paradise is a lovely garden area featuring a large table and chairs to relax and unwind. If you’re lonely, the hens wandering around in the garden will keep you company.
Weather permitting, you can enjoy your dinner or cup of coffee on the hotel’s terrace while watching the hustle and bustle on the Church Square.
Woerden is a pleasant town situated on the east of Holland’s Green Heart region. Many towns and cities are well within reach, such as the city of Utrecht. Bird Sanctuary ‘Zegveld Polder’ is ideal for walks and bicycle tours. Woerden Castle offers Art, History and Nature. The Neo Gothic Basilica St. Bonaventura is near the Castle. From its 77m high church tower you will experience wonderful views of the surrounding landscape.
