Chef Harold Kok wins QL Robbe & Berking Silver Butter Knife 2017

Chef Harold Kok of Hostellerie De Hamert (Wellerlooi, the Netherlands) is this years winner of the QL Robbe & Berking Silver Butter Knife. Hein van Beek, founder of QL Hotels & Restaurants, handed out the award with Karolina Stefanski of Robbe & Berking to Kok. The Dutch chef from the Southern province of Limburg also won a Big Green Egg Mini. The award ceremony for the QL Robbe & Berking Silver Butter Knife took place during the QL Annual Gathering 2017 in Hotel Le Val d’Amblève.

Fifth year
At QL Hotels & Restaurants the use of regional and seasonal products has been a top priority for many years. This is important to QL. These products are often healthier, better for the environment - cooking with them is also good for the local economy. Every year, on the QL Anniversary, the QL Robbe & Berking Silver Butter Knife is awarded to those chefs who not only use these beautiful products but also make the effort to acquire in-depth knowledge of their properties and use. In 2017, QL Hotels & Restaurants awarded the Robbe & Berking Silver Butter Knife for the fifth consecutive year.

Roger & Monique Smits, owners of Hostellerie De Hamert responded proudly to the news: ‘Harold Kok has been working in the kitchen at De Hamert for 25 years. Despite all these years, he still keeps a close eye on all the trends and innovations, the seasons, and our fine regional products. He always finds the balance between what our guests like to eat, local produce, and what he likes to cook himself. A big compliment!’

Theo Bovens, King’s Commissioner (Gouverneur) of the province of Limburg reacted enthousiasticly:‘The famous Nieuwspoort dinner [at the parliamentary press centre, ed.] is the event that anybody who is anybody in The Hague, the cabinet members, MPs and senators, want to attend because of the asparagus, prepared by chef Harold Kok. With consistent quality straight from the Limburg soil, he always manages to surprise everyone. You couldn’t wish for a better ambassador for Limburg. Congratulations!’
