Gut Steinbach, with 58 rooms and suites and seven stunning chalets, lies in the middle of the Bavarian Alps. Restaurant Heimat serves regional specialities prepared using the best local ingredients. Like the hotel, the restaurant interior is in typical Alpine style, but with a contemporary feel. The woodfire adds extra cosy atmosphere. Apart from Restaurant Heimat, Gut Steinbach has three country-style dining rooms with lots of carved wood: Auerhahn Stube, Bayern Stube and Tiroler Stube. Gut Steinbach is set on a 50-hectare estate, where you can walk, explore and relax. In the winter the landscape becomes a snowy paradise, nestling in the Bavarian Alps. There’s even a proper ski jump not far from the hotel. Weather permitting, you can relax and enjoy the view on one of the three terraces.
Reit im Winkl is in the Chiemgau region, famous for its reliable snowfall. From the village, the ski lifts of the Steinplatte/Winkelmoosalm skiing area are easy to reach on the ski bus. The lifts take you up via the Winkelmoosalm (1,500 metres) to the highest point of the Steinplatte (1,900 metres). With its dependable snow covering, the area around Reit im Winkl is very popular with biathlon athletes. In summer, the valley and the green slopes of the Bavarian Alps are ideal for walking, cycling and golf. It’s a little over an hour’s drive to Salzburg, the city of Mozart and the Salzburg Festival. The historic city centre is on the UNESCO World Heritage list, and well worth a visit.
